Fashionably comfortable; Tips to balance style and comfort.
A woman is never sexier than when she is comfortable in her clothes.
Vera Wang.
I love to work outside the confines of my home because I get the privilege to wake up and style an outfit, and believe me, bills being paid do not motivate me as much as styling outfits of the day and being fashionable. However, I love to work in my bed just as much, then I can be in my most comfortable pyjamas and loungewear. I have detested buying comfy outfits like yoga pants, leggings and sweatpants before because I used to find them a little immodest and finding the right ones for a thick girl like me meant breaking the bank since many second-hand quality clothes are synonymous with slender people. With age, you learn to embrace comfort over everything else which might make balancing fashion and comfort sound unachievable. I know comfort is usually defined by leggings, sweatpants or baggy outfits but that doesn’t have to be the case always. You can be both fashionably stylish and comfortable.
Considering that fashion vs. comfort continues to be a debate, especially in this fast-paced world, where we often find ourselves torn between wanting to look stylish and feeling at ease in our clothing. Finding the right balance between looking stylish and feeling comfortable can be a challenging task for many. As someone who has struggled with this topic in my closet, I aim to help you discover that perfect balance where you can confidently embrace your style without sacrificing comfort. All it takes is a few changes in your wardrobe and you’ll be good to go. Here are some tips to help you strike the right balance.
Choose comfortable fabrics.
The choice of fabrics can make a significant difference in the comfort of your clothing. Opt for clothing made from soft and breathable materials such as cotton, linen, modal, wool or blends that have a bit of stretch. These fabrics allow for better movement and ventilation since they allow moisture to escape while synthesis like polyester and acetate does not have that advantage. Comfortable fabrics not only enhance physical well-being but also boost self-confidence and overall comfort.
Dress your body shape.
Lately, I’m so cautious of what I wear. I take pride in the fact that my body doesn’t have noticeable cellulite which is often associated with thick girls, but very short, tight clothing or skimpy outfits make me uncomfortable. Fashion is not one-size-fits-all, and it’s essential to embrace our unique body shapes. Focus on understanding your body type and how to dress in a way that highlights your best features while keeping comfort in mind. Sometimes wearing skimpy clothes is the easiest way to feel uncomfortable. Avoid clothes that are too tight or too loose. Find pieces that fit well and flatter your body shape without restricting movement. Well-fitting clothes can make you feel more at ease and comfortable.
Prioritize your style.
I feel confident in bossy-styled outfits. I want the flattering well-fitted clothing that complements my figure, so it is uncomfortable for me to wear baggy outfits’. Discovering your style is essential in the fashion vs. comfort dilemma. Personal style is the way you express and embrace your individuality by what you choose to wear, therefore establishing your style will allow you to find comfort. Fashion is subjective, and staying true to your style can help you feel comfortable and confident in what you wear. Experiment with different looks to find what makes you feel best.
Choose comfortable undergarments.
One reason I will take working from my bed over working outside my home is the fact that you don’t have to wear undergarments at home. Most of us look forward to the end of the day particularly to get our undergarments off our bodies. This is about bras, underwear and shapewear. No woman wants to walk around with a bulging stomach or unsupported breasts at the expense of their self-esteem or self-confidence. However, the thought of having to adjust your bra every now and then or having to hide your tummy because of your not-so-withholding shapewear is more disturbing. The right undergarments can make a significant difference in how comfortable you feel throughout the day. That’s why you have to invest in comfortable undergarments.
Comfortable footwear.
As someone who wears heels on most days and therefore has to suffer blisters on my toes, shoes are undoubtedly a vital part of any outfit in your comfort style. Footwear is a crucial aspect of the fashion vs. comfort debate. Uncomfortable footwear can ruin the entire experience. Explore options that offer both style and support, preventing discomfort and foot-related issues. Comfortable shoes are a must for overall comfort. Invest in stylish and fitting quality shoes such as sneakers, loafers, or supportive dressy sandals. Opt for designs that suit your personality, fit your size and provide proper support for your feet.
Embrace versatile style.
I like to be a little chic and effortlessly bossy, but this shouldn’t have to limit my wardrobe. We often associate chic and elegant outfits with discomfort, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Choose fashion-forward and effortlessly chic clothing that keeps you feeling relaxed and fabulous. This can be achieved by adding ensembles to your wardrobe that are of simple and versatile designs that can be dressed up or down for various occasions. Athleisure blends fashion and comfort seamlessly. Incorporate stylish activewear pieces into your daily outfits for a relaxed and trendy look. This way you can create different outfits with the same comfortable pieces.
In conclusion, these are just but a few ways to achieve a stylish and comfortable wardrobe that aligns with your lifestyle and values. The fashion vs. comfort debate might go on for a long time, but it doesn’t have to be a struggle. By understanding the Importance of both elements and finding the right balance, you can create a wardrobe that allows you to look and feel best in any situation. Embrace the joy of dressing up in a way that makes you look and feel fantastic every day. Remember fashion should empower you, not weigh you down, you just have to find what works for you.
